An advantage of living only a couple of hours from The Big City: the opportunity for little mini-vacations. This weekend we're treating ourselves to a bit of San Francisco culture: a couple of museums and an opera. No shopping this trip (I know! I know! But we're going to be there less than 72 hours...).

Balmain’s incredible top, with its dramatic diamond harlequin pattern, is based on an actual character from seventeenth-century Italian theater. The main characters of the plays, which evolved over time and influenced modern art, music, and poetry, are PIERROT, a sad clown, pining for love of COLUMBINE, who usually breaks his heart and leaves him for ARLEQUIN.

In an interview with U.K. Vogue, Mary Katrantzou said that the graphic design of this dress was inspired by stamped passports and visas. What I especially love about the dress is the unexpected mix of an arthouse print on an item made of stretch denim. I thought it would be fun to pair dramatically graphic pumps with the softer, almost watercolor-like graphics of the dress. The bag/book (look closely!) was simply too much fun to pass up.

While on a trip to Paris with his (annoying) fiancé's (incredibly annoying) family, a nostalgic screenwriter finds himself mysteriously going back in time to the 1920s every night at midnight. There, he has amazing conversations with such famous artists as Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Salvador Dali, Cole Porter, Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald, and T.S. Eliot. He also (of course) falls in love with a young woman who is MUCH nicer than his fiancé (did I mention how annoying the fiancé is?). A charmer of a movie… not to be missed, if only for the shots of Paris in the rain.
